About Hugh

Located in Western Australia, Hugh is an award-winning photographer and cinematographer specialising in commercial and documentary work.

A proud First Nations Australian from the Whadjuk Noongar Nation, Hugh grew up in a small country town, where he developed an intrinsic connection to country and a deep appreciation for the power of storytelling. In his youth, Hugh experimented with various creative mediums, but it was eventually photography that offered the profound creative expression he sought, giving rise to his distinctive voice. Almost a decade after his first encounter with a camera, Hugh has established himself as a respected creative with a comprehensive resume and inspiring body of work.

It was Hugh’s love for the outdoors that initially lead to his interest in photography. Capturing the meaningful moments of his personal journey further developed his appreciation for storytelling, manifesting a desire to pursue a career creating beautiful images. Hugh's obsession with photography has continued to develop over the years, leading him to the irreplaceable characteristics of analogue photography having now adopted multiple formats into his workflow. 

Although Hugh's career as a photographer came first, his love for cinematography soon flourished as he explored the medium. Applying his understanding and appreciation of light from his photographic work, the transition to moving pictures was natural. This laid the foundation for pursuing documentary projects, which evolved into another creative passion and alternative method for visually depicting compelling narratives. Hugh is now a full member of the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS).

Through his meticulous approach, he translates vision into compelling and elegant imagery. He finds undeniable fulfilment through embracing the intentional process of creating stunning visuals. This approach has become synonymous with his distinctive artistic style as he continues to push his work both commercially and personally.
